Paleo Snacks for Kids

Paleo diet is a great option for kids as it helps with their gut health, immune system, brain and memory health, and overall physical wellbeing. When you decide to take your child on the paleo journey, one of the things you will need to decide on is what types of snacks to give them. Since you are no longer handing them a cookie and glass of milk when they get home from school, it is time to prepare paleo-friendly snacks that your kids will still enjoy. These snacks are easy to put together and are delicious, so your kids won’t be missing those chips and cookies as much as you might think.

Make Veggie chips

When you are in the beginning stages of switching from a traditional diet to a paleo diet, it can be hard for kids to let go of their favorites. However, you can still use paleo-friendly foods and try to mimic the snacks they used to enjoy. Instead of handing them a bag of potato chips, why not make them some veggie chips? They are easy to make and there are many options available. You can use just about any vegetable that is cut into thin slices. Some good vegetables to use include yams, squash, kale, zucchini, kale, and eggplant. After cutting the vegetable into thin slices or simply tearing small pieces (for instance, with kale), you will then sprinkle it with olive oil and seasonings, then bake them until crisp.

Create Homemade Trail Mix

Another fun snack option for kids that offers many options is homemade trail mix. This is very easy to do since you simply choose a combination of dried fruit, nuts, and seeds and put it in a container or individual storage bags. This is a fun snack that can also involve your kids’ participation. Get the kids around the table and let them choose their favorite combination of fruits, nuts, and seeds. Provide a combination of each to give them lots of choices. Let each kid put together their own trail mix and write their name on the container. When they’re looking for a quick snack, they will enjoy what they created on their own.

Combine Meat and Veggies

You can also make versatile snacks that are paleo-friendly by combining different types of meats and veggies, along with adding some approved fat sources. The great thing about this is that you can use a lot of leftovers from previous meals to create snacks for your kids. If you had chicken and veggies for dinner last night, cut up the chicken and veggies into bite-size pieces and place them in baggies for your kids to enjoy as snacks in between meals. Raw vegetables like carrots, broccoli, cucumber, and celery are paleo-friendly and very easy to cut up and give to your kids as snacks. Another option is to include olives and pickles in their diet when adding veggies to the meat or protein source.
